Ireland is Intel’s centre of manufacturing excellence in Europe. Since 1989, Intel has invested US$7.5 billion turning 360 acres of the Collinstown Industrial Park into the most advanced industrial campus in Europe.

Over 4,000 people work at the Leixlip, Co. Kildare campus and in addition, there are over 200 people employed at Intel Communications Europe located in Shannon, Co. Clare, which is the Ireland product development arm of our Communications Product Group.

The fabs at the Leixlip campus produce 300mm wafers on multiple process technologies and these combined facilities constitute one of Intel's most technologically advanced, high-volume manufacturing sites in the world. These facilities produce leading edge silicon products that power platforms and technology advancements which are essential to the way we learn, live and work today.

The core of advanced manufacturing capability at the Leixlip site is a key enabler for numerous research and development initiatives that are carried out at the campus.

There is a dedicated team of employees involved in Silicon Nanoelectronics Research who collaborate extensively with research institutes such as the CRANN Nanoscience Research Centre in Trinity College Dublin and the Tyndall National Research Institute in Cork. The team also collaborate with universities and other companies from across Ireland and Europe,Also located at the campus is the Innovation Open Lab - Ireland (IOL). The IOL is home to the Sustainability and Enterprise Research (SER) team who facilitates and engages in open research and innovation opportunities in Europe that can ultimately lead to value-driven technology solutions. The IOL is a member and network leader of Intel Labs Europe which has the goal of expanding the scope of Intel’s European R&D activities by coordinating innovation activity and future investments against an Innovation Agenda focused on enabling a Digital Europe.

The Health Research and Innovation Europe (HRIe) team, also based in Leixlip, was initiated in 2006 and is part of the Health Research & Innovation (HRI) Team based in Oregon, USA. The interdisciplinary HRIe team, comprising social scientists, hardware and software engineers and interaction design researchers, works on various projects in support of that goal.  A primary focus of the HRIe team is to lead the Technology Research for Independent Living (TRIL) centre which is an international research facility set up to define and profile the ageing process, in order to develop technologies to allow more successful ageing.

Another growing competence in manufacturing research at the site is represented by the Product Development Engineering team which design leading edge test solutions for Intel semiconductor circuits such as microprocessors, chipsets, consumer and embedded electronics devices.

Intel Ireland is also involved, in a leadership role, with two Technology Centres in Ireland. These Technology Centres, The Energy Efficiency Technology Centre (I2E2) and The Irish Centre for Manufacturing Research (ICMR) are collaborative entities established and led by industry which address the key issue of building and reinforcing areas of strength within both industry and the academic sphere and ensuring that these are highly networked with each other.

Intel Ireland has an excellent environmental management track record. Our Environmental Management System is accredited to the ISO 14001 quality standard. Intel Ireland is also certified to the European standard for energy management - EN 1600.
